State minimum salary

$55,000

New Mexico sets minimum teacher salaries by licensure level, not degree. House Bill 156 (Laws 2025, Chapter 149), effective July 1, 2025, sets $55,000 for Level 1, $65,000 for Level 2 and $75,000 for Level 3-A on a standard 9.5-month contract; Level 3-A requires a master's degree or National Board certification. NEA average and starting salaries are FY 2024-25. Districts are ranked by PED 2025-26 40-day enrollment in district-run schools (locally authorized charters excluded). Because pay follows licensure level, this site shows Level 1 starting pay, the top of Level 2 as the bachelor's maximum, and the top of Level 3 as the master's maximum. Farmington and Roswell schedules could not be read and none was found for Carlsbad or Clovis, so Alamogordo (13th) was added.
