State minimum salary
Louisiana has no statewide minimum teacher salary schedule. The former minimum-salary laws (R.S. 17:421 and 17:421.3) were repealed by Act 1 of 2012, effective July 1, 2012. R.S. 17:418 now requires each school board to adopt and publish its own salary schedule by June 30 each year, based on effectiveness, demand and experience, with no single factor counting for more than 50%. NEA average salary and average starting salary are FY 2024-25. Districts are the 10 largest school systems by the Louisiana Department of Education's October 1, 2025 enrollment count (statewide Type 2 charters excluded). Figures are base pay for each district's standard teacher calendar (172 to 183 days), so day counts differ between districts.
Match the school year, degree lane and credited experience. The published maximum is not a promise of starting placement. Confirm contract days, supplements and eligibility in each district’s official schedule.

Does a master’s degree change the salary?
Check the master’s lane in the district’s published schedule. Degree supplements and placement rules vary; a missing value here does not mean there is no additional pay.
